Compliments are free. Spread a little joy!

When was the last time you had a co-worker tell you what a great job you were doing. Or had a friend tell you how much they love you. Or had a stranger tell you how much they liked your hair or outfit. And no - I'm not talking about a cat call. I'm talking about a sweet, genuine, out of the blue complement. How did that make you feel? Maybe it took your mind off of something you were struggling to deal with for a moment. Maybe it made you smile. A complement has the power to change someone's entire day.

I'm a big believer that life is truly all about embracing the little moments and choosing happiness. Why not choose to spread a little happiness to others as well? Giving out compliments doesn't mean being fake or over the top . I just think it's important to let people know when they are appreciated. We can't control everything in our lives, but we can control how we treat other people. It's so important to take accountability for how we live our lives. After all - the true test of character is how you act when you think nobody is watching. Life can become so fast paced and self indulgent that we forget to actually SEE people and communicate. To really look someone in the eye. To really notice when someone might be struggling. To take 10 seconds out of our self absorbed routine and help someone in need or express gratitude when something good happens to us. Whether it's giving your seat to someone on the subway, seeing someone drop their change on the ground and helping to pick it up, or telling someone to have a great day, little acts and words of kindness go a long way.

Life is full of ups and downs. We all need a little pick me up from time to time. We all want to feel valued and special. How wonderful to be the person to lift anothers' spirit for even a moment. If you notice someone working really hard or being extra sweet or wearing a badass outfit - tell them! This goes for strangers as well as in our personal relationships. Life is short - lets all celebrate each others strengths and recognize each others gifts - rather than dwell on weaknesses.
